Mayors from different municipalities of Iloilo Province pledging support for Gov. Niel Tupas I can understand. But support coming from a group known for their idealism is another. Gov. Tupas must doing something right to gain their support.

Bayan Muna today expressed its steadfast support to beleaguered Iloilo Gov. Niel Tupas Sr. after he was ‘perpetually dismissed from holding public office’ by the Office of the Ombudsman on trumped-up corruption charges.

“Gov. Tupas is now being harassed by the Macapagal-Arroyo administration for his steadfast support to the people’s movement and continuing call for Mrs. Arroyo to resign. With Malacañang approval, Justice Sec. Raul Gonzalez has engineered Tupas’ ‘perpetual dismissal’ based on an invented corruption charge involving P20,000. It is very reprehensible for the administration to target Gov. Tupas for a corruption charge when Macapagal-Arroyo has yet to face serious allegations of squandering millions of government funds since 2001,” Bayan Muna Rep. Satur Ocampo said.
