We moved

DSC_0738

If you can read this, I have successfully transferred data to another server where I have more control of overall site maintenance.

As for me, I have moved to Singapore where I have more control over my future (financially, at least). I had been here for almost three months now and am enjoying it so far. There are still a lot of places I've yet to visit.

As for myiloilo.com, I have enabled profit sharing here. Just put in your Google Adsense publisher ID in your profile here and you can earn from clicks on your blog pages. It won't be much at first but the more blog entries you submit, you get better chances of visitors clicking on you ads.

Thoughts Pacquiao vs Barrera last October 6

I know this is way too late. It was the birthday celebration of my better half on the same day or I could have been in SM City early last sunday and spared myself 5 hours of television advertisment. According to my server access logs we're getting requests for Pacquiao vs Barrera fight results last October 6, 2007 (Oct. 7 Phil. time) so it's only proper to give them what they're looking for.

Obviously Manny Pacquiao won over Marco Antonio Barrera despite all the controversy Pacquiao faced locally. The first 5 rounds of the fight showed that Barrera is capable of sending Pacquiao to the floor especially on rounds 3 and 4. Yes, Marco Antonio Barrera punched harder. In the end, it's still Pacquiao who got the crowns by punching more and dictate the fight.

Will there be a trilogy? Barrera was quoted saying there will no trilogy thinking he would win but I guess he's thinking hard about it right now.

Teri Hatcher on Philippine Med Schools

I'm not trying to fuel enraged Filipinos but what do you think of this.

PayPal is finally here in the Philippines

Not that PayPal has never reached the Philippine shores. We already have PayPal a while back. Only that the one they gave us before was a way to pay for our online purchases. Now we are able to receive payments/donations through them. A boon to programmers, designers, professional bloggers, writers, SEOs and whoever who live off the internet. The ability to receive funds alone is reason for us to rejoice.

If you haven't heard of PayPal before, which I doubt. It's a payment gateway/service acquired by eBay a long time ago that enabled payment for items and services bid, bought or sold at their stores. It's a hassle free form of transferring funds online. If that wasn't clear enough, picture this: PayPal is virtually your money on the internet. It is so because it's the widest accepted way of sending or receiving online funds.

PayPal being finally here is perfect. Except for one thing. You can only withdraw the amount to a US bank. I'm not clear yet whether you should open an account with a bank in the US or having an account to a local US based bank is enough. I do have one workaround at the moment that could work. It's allowed to withdraw funds to a debit card. Unionbank issues VISA debit cards locally called EON or eWallet. Take your pick. I have EON and it works like a charm for online purchases. I'm definitely going to try withdraw money to it in the next few days when I'll be charging my offshore clients for services rendered.

Picea

Last week we found another gem restaurant in Iloilo City. Picea in Mabini-Texas Streets beside Ilolo Central Elementary School. Having passed by a Picea store in Mandurriao, they give an impression of being all desserts. But apart from their luscious cakes, they serve heavenly pasta and ribs, particularly the carbonara and the country style rib. Picea supplies big hotel restaurants in Iloilo City with cakes so definitely their cakes are on the top of your list when you go visit them. We had blueberry cheesecakes and sans-rivals.

Their baby back ribs is so tasteful that we have been back twice last week and could have been there yesterday if they weren't closed. I don't know why they're closed on a saturday night because saturday night is still "the gimik" night in Iloilo City.

Picea is one of those restaurants that definitely sets out on giving the best service and food quality to their customers. The food got to taste better when the kitchen is far bigger than the dining area. And oh, those indirect lighting makes the scene perfect. Lastly, quality doesn't come cheap but they're all worth it.

Erap Guilty of Plunder

Just in: Sandiganbayan found ousted president Joseph "Erap" Estrada guilty of plunder. He was, however, declared not guilty in the case of perjury. The decision of the Sandiganbayan sentences Erap to Reclusion Perpetua (life imprisonment, I think). His son Jinggoy is declared not guilty.

As I see it, the decision of the Sandiganbayan was a safe choice. Erap can always file for a motion for reconsideration or petition for an appeal. IANAL, that's just how I understand court procedure so forgive me if I'm wrong. Anyway, what I'm saying is: this is not the end of it. There will be more to come for the media (and blogs?) to hype.

Magic the Gathering in Iloilo

It's been a while since the last time I played Magic the Gathering. Today, somebody left a comment on my personal blog pointing to a local Magic site Magic Iloilo. It's good to know there exists an active community for local players. It helps to have some sort of central location to get information about the next tournament.

My all-time favorite deck was an all black necropotence/discard. Complete with Hypnotic Spectres and Feldon's Cane (this is not black actually). I tried to stay away from Stasis blue decks most of the time. My favorite deck to play against was Green/White Ernham-gedon combo. I swear, I hated Swords to Plowshare card the most.

It had won me in tournaments around UST, DLSU and here in Iloilo but, unfortunately, I had to part with it when I was in dire need of cash. I hope to build my deck once again just for the fun and memories of the time I spend countless hours perfecting it. Anybody?

Dinagyang.com is 2 years old today

The premiere Ilonggo online community site Dinagyang.com is celebrating it's 2nd year of providing a place online where Ilonggos get together and discuss just about any topic under the hot Iloilo sun.

New developments such as raffles (iPods, I gathered) awaits frequent forum posters. Being an active lurker, I have no way of winning the iPod (I'd love to have one!). But you might. Just participate in the lively discussions. Or better yet, start your own thread and pour out those emotions, negative and positive.

Thriller remake by Cebu Inmates

Inmates from CPDRC doing a Michael Jackson classic. Too bad, they can't join events like Sinulog or Dinagyang.
