Phishing At BPI Express Online

Beware of phishing. Phishers are now targeting Philippine banks. The latest bank to be targeted by phishing scams is BPI Expressonline site as reported in Technobiography. I bank online using BPI Expressonline and Union Bank so it certainly raised my scam alert level.

Phishing sounds like fishing. In phishing, we are the fish and phishers are throwing baits at us in the form of a cunningly written email usually asking for username and/or passwords to legitimate sites or enticing us to click on a deceptively constructed link to a phishing site.

Just how well are these emails written? Take a look at what Ka Edong of Technobiography received.

Technobiography also has tips on how to detect and avoid phishing. Also, use OpenDNS as your DNS. They have anti-phishing technology in place to protect you. Just remember all these are not 100% (what is?). You still have to tread the interweb with caution.
